18 Holes on the Old Course, St Pierre

The first was designed by Ken Cotton in 1961 from a deer park thronged with highly prized trees that dominate the scene and subdue most of those trying to thread their way through. The most brazen is the giant chestnut that rules the second fairway but even its victims tend to be calmed by the fact it has been there since 1600.

St Pierre has hosted the Dunlop Masters and the Curtis Cup and in 1996, staged the Solheim Cup. The course has seen many improvements recently. Professionals and amateurs alike find the par three 18th across a lake and uphill towards the ancient chimneystacks both daunting and memorable.

18 Holes on the Roman Road, Celtic Manor Resort

Roman Road, the first of the Resort’s courses, opened in 1995 and was ranked ‘the top inland course in Wales’ by Golf Monthly Magazine.  Overlooking the Severn Estuary with views across to Somerset and Devon, it was designed by Robert Trent Jones Snr and is named after the many Roman roads that criss-cross it, the design shaped to avoid disrupting any remains.

The Roman Road course was the host venue in 2005, 2006 and 2007 for both The Celtic Manor Wales Open and the star-studded All*Star Cup.

18 Holes on The Montgomerie, Celtic Manor Resort

The new par 69 Montgomerie course opened in 2007.
The former Coldra Woods Academy course has been redesigned by Ryder Cup star, Colin Montgomerie and it also includes some of the holes from the former Wentwood Hills championship course, which hosted five Celtic Manor Wales Open tournaments between 2000 and 2004.
